Translating D&D into ICRPG: Actions

Translating D&D into Index Cardian (Indexese? Cardik? ICRPGish?)

Even though I’ve never played official Dungeons and Dragons before, I was able to pick up both the new Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide to look over and grow my understanding. It can’t be argued that the system is ubiquitous with the hobby and it is a common language. That said, because ICRPG is my native RPG tongue at this point, as I’ve been reading, I’ve been automatically translating pieces into Index Cardian (Indexese? Cardik? ICRPGish?).

For starters, let’s look at the general ACTIONS:

Attack

Roll a d20 + STAT (Melee = STR, Range = DEX) against TARGET. Apply EFFORT based on attack type

Dash

Spend your action to move a second time.

Disengage

As an action, move away from a previously engaged enemy. Enemy transitions to a new target.

Dodge

Spend your action dodging incoming attacks until the start of your next turn. Instead of DEF, roll DEX against each incoming attack. If you succeed, the attack misses. If you fail, the attack hits.

Help

Spend your action assisting another player, adding your applicable STAT bonus to your ally’s roll.

Hide

Spend an action concealing yourself with a HARD DEX check. You are “invisible” to standard enemies until you either make a noise louder than a whisper, the enemy finds you by making a HARD WIS check, make an attack roll, or cast a spell.

Influence

Spend an action to influence a target’s action, if they are hesitant. Roll CHA to influence their decision. Willing targets don’t require a roll. Unwilling targets can’t be influenced.

Magic

Roll INT/WIS/CHA against the TARGET to cast a spell.

Ready

Forgo your action on your turn, to delay your action until it is the enemy’s turn and the trigger occurs. Work with the GM to establish the appropriate trigger.

Search

Roll WIS to discern something that isn’t obvious in the scene

Study

Roll INT to reveal an important piece of information

Utilize

Spend an action to use a particular item or object
